Drug Addiction Rehabilitation: Helping a Cocaine Addict to Find a Substance Abuse Program

More and more people are becoming addicted to cocaine and very little even know what they are getting themselves into. The feeling of pleasure blocks their whole reasoning and all they can see is having the drug at all costs. They may not even admit that they have a problem and refuse all possibilities of getting into a substance abuse program. Below we have outlined a few preliminary steps that should be taken before getting them into a drug rehab.

Understand what you are up against – Cocaine is a very dangerous drug that can considerably alter an addicts behavioral pattern. There are days they may be aggressive and others when they seem so fragile and helpless. You need to understand this so that you do not assume they are pretending nor try to attack them with harsh words or physical violence if they get aggressive. The last thing you want is to push them farther and farther into the embrace of drugs and far away from a substance abuse program.

Make Sure You Are Right – Do not condemn the person you assume to be addicted to cocaine before having all the relevant proof before you. Just because they may have friends that are drug addicts does not mean that they too are drug addicts. You want them to enter a substance abuse program with facts and not what you feel.

Approach Them About it or seek intervention – You should try to approach them about their addiction if you find that they are really addicted to cocaine. If you think that you do not have the expertise to talk to them then contact a substance abuse center to have a counselor guide then and hear what they have to say.

Be Prepared – Many cocaine users will deny that they are addicted to the drug even if it is evident that they are to everyone else around. If you are faced with this, then do not get angry and NEVER accuse them because this will only make matters worse.

Support – You will have to get them enrolled in a substance abuse program so that they can overcome their addiction. This can involve a long road to progress so be prepared to be patient and understanding with them.

How far you allow a loved one’s life to be destroyed by drugs will depend on both yourself and them. Families that stick together in these challenging times are the ones that will see positive results. However, those that abandon their loved ones in a substance abuse program fail to partake of the wonderful joy that a drug addict experiences when they know that they are making progress towards rehabilitation.
