Does Alcohol Affect What Prozac Is Suppost to Do? or Is It Just Not Recommened to Mix?

And please…i’ve heard it before…the “well you should not be mixing antidepressant medicine with a depressant” blah blah blah…ok i’ve heard it. So come up with something new. Plus I’m on prozac more for OCD.

Well, you seem to have made up your mind already about the matter, so I’m guessing that nothing anyone says here will stop you anyway. The main problem with combining the two is drowsiness/dizziness – the Prozac will pretty much amplify the adverse effects of the alcohol. Also, it’s not as well established, but there is some evidence that the effect that alcohol has on serotonin regulation in the brain can interact with the effect that Prozac has and can paradoxically create a psychotic state. Basically, not a good idea. And your excuse of “I’m taking it for OCD” actually makes it MORE dangerous – much higher doses of SSRIs (the class of drugs Prozac belongs to) are used for the treatment of OCD than are used for treatment of depression, so any side effects in you would be even more severe.
