Do You Ever Wonder About the People That Ask You to Donate When Your Walking Somewhere or Doing Something?

Question by tori_072003: Do you ever wonder about the people that ask you to donate when your walking somewhere or doing something?
After I get approached by someone in a parking lot or at a stop light saying that they’re from some “church” or “organization” that I’ve never even heard of that helps take care of recovering drug addicts or ex gang members, I wonder why every person that approaches me that their little organization almost always has to do with drug addicts or gang members. These people don’t have a booth or anything they just walk everywhere. Why can’t it also be for battered women, abused children or animals? I always tell the person that I don’t have anymore money (even though I know I have money). It’s because I don’t really trust that my money is going to go for the cause they’re trying to help, when the person asking kinda looks like a crack head. Some people actually do lie and ask for donations only to keep the money for themselves.

What do you guys think?

I think that you’re right to be cautious, I’m the same way. I’m happy to help as I can, but I will only donate to causes I believe in and are truly valuable and real charities. I never give money to someone on the street because they never seem legit, if I’m interested in their cause, I take the charity name and I tell them I’ll look it up and read up on it before donating. If they pressure you to donate right then and there, chances are they’re not legit.
