A lot has been attributed to Dr Ezekiel Emanuel (Rahm’s older brother and cheif advisor to Obama on Health Care Policy) regarding his scary views about rationing healthcare to the old and infirm. As a test, I will make six statements and you should answer if you agree or disagree with each of them. I will give the points to the first person who matches what Dr. Emanuel has written about that topic.

1) Medicare and Medicaid should be eliminated and replaced with a system of vouchers to pay for private medical insurance.
2) In the Karen Ann Quinlan case (irreversible coma induced by drug and alcohol overdose) the court acted ethically in allowing her parents to withhold treatment from her, despite the absence of any record of her own stated wishes.
3) If you have a 65 year old and 25 year old who need a kidney transplant, the 25 year old should get preference for an available kidney.
4) Doctor-assisted suicide is an ethical way to avoid wasting scarce resources on the terminally ill.
5) A panel of medical experts should determine whether or not those who are suffering and leading purposeful lives should get care.
6) It is the general medical consensus that less care should be allocated to those who are disabled or have dementia. Do you agree with this opinion?
