David’s Adoption

Child & Family Services-Capital Area is located in Lansing, Michigan. Our services include foster care, adoption, independent living (youth aging out of foster care), Angel House (children’s emergency shelter and advocacy center), mental health counseling, adolescent substance abuse treatment, and Lansing Teen Court. This video clip highlights a success story from our adoption program, which works with children and youth who cannot return to their biological homes from foster care and are in need of a forever-family. The legal finalization of an adoption is a scene which is typically closed to the public eye. What makes this story unique is the age of the adopted child: by age 17, David had spent a long time in the foster care system and had no hope or expectation that anyone would adopt him. However, there are angels among us and miracles do happen. The venue is the courtroom of Judge R. George Economy, 30th Judicial Circuit Court in Ingham County. Please watch and listen closely.

Professionals and policy makers in juvenile justice and adolescent substance abuse treatment will want to check out these recommendations for key news stories from the editor of the Reclaiming Futures blog.
