HIV – Rising menace
Nevirapine is considered to be an effective drug that can prevent HIV infection in babies born to mothers with HIV. However a new study shows that only about half of babies born to mothers with HIV receive the drug. The study appeared in the July 21 HIV/AIDS themed issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Nigerian agency arrest 2,883 drug traffickers in 5 months
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested 2,883 suspected drug traffickers between January and May. The agency’s operational reports reaching Xinhua on Tuesday from Abuja indicated that the figure comprised 2,780 males and 103 females.
