I am two months pregnant and recently decided I would keep the baby. This has been a struggle because I do not want to be with the father any longer and after he learned this he has threatened to “ruin” my life and anyone in it including the child. He has been begging me to abort since the child will cause 18 years of money, time, and effort and apparently isn’t worth it to him unless we are together. He doesn’t want me to keep the baby only becasue I do not want to be with him and before I let him know that, he was all for it. He has recently threatened me that he would do everything in his power to prove I am unfit which includes telling the people I nanny for that I am “hurting and abusing” their child. This is not true whatsoever but I am scared of the extremes he will go to. I recently graduated with my masters in education and if he reported me for child abuse just becasue he felt like it, this could possibly ruin my career for life. I know it would have to be proven that I hurt a child and that would never happen but can this affect me with him just saying he suspected it? I would never hurt a child, have worked with them for many years, and am literally scared at the actions I know he could be capable of taking. He is sick in the head to even think of something like this because it could ruin my life. He is the one to be worried about, he was sexually abused by his father as a child! I am just worried about my baby and my future and am literally scared to death of him. He is very light hearted and nice but only when he gets his own way. I truly believe he would go completely out of his way to ruin my life if I have this child and I am scared. A recent text I received from him was this: “you lie, you use, and i bet if you have the baby, paternity testing will prove its not mine so go ahead…make all of the following lives hell on earth to the best of my ability for 20 yrs: me, you, the baby, our parents, anybody-friend or family-who wants to interact. and remember the beauty in you being reported to doctors for sexual or child abuse/neglect is that it’d help me prove your an unfit mother in court. That coupled with the psych evaluation and your unemployment and irs audit courteous of my mom. Granted, it would still be highly unlikely to have the kid taken from its mom (thats what gov’t programs like wic and welfare are for) but at least it may effect your work with kids and give me the satisfaction of revenge and making you suffer”. Sick right? Theres much more also that I am saving as proof. But he seriously makes me sick. Any advice would be very helpful! Because of this and things that have happened in the past, our families are at war. Now that I’m pregnant…its icing on the cake. I wish I could just make him disappear. Another thing he said he would do was sign over rights to me..?

Keep the text, and share it with law enforcement. Probably not much they can do, but they can investigate. Likewise, his mom cannot audit you unless you have done something in which you can be audited (such as working as a bookkeeper.)
You are probably right to stay away from this man. You should check into battered women’s shelters in the area – they have programs that will help you know what is right to do and what your and his rights are.
