Can Overdose One Various Medications Cause Heart Arrhythmias?
Question by Mad Max: Can overdose one various medications cause heart arrhythmias?
About 11 years ago I attempted suicide by overdosing on many medications including many amphetamine based cold medications, prozac, ativan, and tylenol (which was the dangerous part).
When I was put in the hospital, they did an EKG and it was abnormal and showed an arrhythmia, they told me to get it checked out once I got out of the ER, but I never followed through on it.
I now have heart palpitations, is it possible that these are caused by the arrhythmia from 11 years ago? I have not yet talked to my doctor about it, but will likely bring it up with him next time I go in which is 1 week from now.
Due to the ingestion of the amphetamines my heart rate was at 170-180bps for many hours.
170-180bpm rather.

There is no doubt that the overdose caused an arryhythmia at that time. There is no way to know without having an EKG done to know if you’re still having them. I would get it checked out though, as it could be nothing to could be life threatening. If your pulse goes above 100 while resting, it needs to be checked as that is not normal.
