Can Meditation Be Scary?

I have recently started meditating. it has given me a great deal more control over myself. I am uncomfortable with my new unstressed, focused self. It feels like there is not enough excitement to arouse me, and I am not used to that. It gives me a low grade panic attack. I am a recovering prescription speed addict, having quit five months ago.

I think “recovering prescription speed addict” is the key, and meditation at times gives you a clarity that amplifies the awareness of some of the difficulties with your recovery. In its least mystical and most clinical l incarnations meditation is really just a progressive relaxation technique. You might be having troubles relaxing. Speed rewires your nervous system and you might conciser professional help, if your already not getting it now, if you feel like you might relapse.
