my friend says he is going to rehab how long is it usually? and is it possible to like have day rehab or like were you still live at your house?

Your questions can only be answered by knowing where he is going and for which problem. Combination of the elements that you have identified exists in rehab facilities but that does not mean that where he is going affords him all of them.
