Are Christians More Likely to Be Alcoholics? (Or Vice Versa?)?

Question by Robert: Are Christians more likely to be alcoholics? (or vice versa?)?
I recently noticed that Christians and alcoholics have strikingly similar philosophies. Allow me to elaborate: Christians believe the human being is a “slave to sin.” Left to his own vices, man would destroy one another (says the Christian). The only way one can turn from one’s sinful desires is to give over oneself to God. In a way, the Christian relinquishes personal responsibility for his actions. Similarly, the alcoholic is “powerless to his addiction.” It is only by accepting that a power “greater than himself” must help him to change that he can overcome the addiction to alcohol.
In this way, the alcoholic finds himself giving up his self-control by putting it into the hands of the “higher power.” Your thoughts please. Studies preferred, but not necessary.
