As this is a heartbreaking subject, I have learned it can happen to anyone. What if it’s your child? Being a good parent, monitoring friends, being connected, knowing where they’re at, teaching right from wrong, dangers, consequences, and reality just isn’t enough sometimes. What do you do? 12 step programs, rehab, then the truth. There is so cure, there is no answer. How does a parent cope and deal with their child, their baby, their flesh and blood who is so hopelessly lost, that you find everyday a reason not to give up on them.
The show Intervention gives the general public a bird’s eye view into the disease-addiction. But what about those of us who watch and know the anguish of what’s unfolding in front of us? Nowhere to turn in a world that has an addict stigmatized to the point of just flatly labeling them “a junkie”, hopeless and worthless. Insurances that won’t/don’t pay for treatment, snake-oil salesmen who claim “they can help”, rehabs so outrageously expensive that only the rich & famous can afford the long, stabilized plans. What about average people who need help? Anyone read the book “Beautiful Boy?”

my older (step) brother has problems with that type of stuff. really bad problems. the 12 step program and rehab have become such a joke that is doesn’t seem that it could help anyone but it can. right now my brother hasn’t done any drugs/alcohol in 5 days. YAY HIM! his parents are divorced and he is living with his aunt on his moms side who is keeping really really tight tabs on him. THANK THE GOOD LORD!!!! hopefully i MIGHT be able to see him after x-mas if he stays sober. my mother is not his mother so my mom is so confused right now. does she keep me and my younger brother away from him Intel he is 100% sober or does she let us see him when he is ‘on the right track home’ does she talk about him or just leave it alone?
