Antidepressants Making My Mother Crazy?

Question by Darin A: antidepressants making my mother crazy?
My mother is age 60! For lack of a better definition, my mother is acting like a meth Addict. She literally cannot sit still, fidgeting, talking, erratic behavior all day. She told me her doctor put her on some antidepressants and also gave her a prescription to fall asleep.

My mother has always battled depression, but her behaviors now and not normal. We went out to eat last night and she would get up from the table to chase the waiter down to tell him to bring us this or that. Every five minutes! She fidgets with her purse over and over while we drove home, talking non stop. Shecan’tt still still or be quiet for 10 seconds.

What is causing this in her medication? I am fearful for her, as she seems unaware of it. None of us can stand to be in the same room with her as she is sooooo damn hyper!

I would go to your mothers house, get the medication and call her physician while she is there with you. You will get an answering service since it is the weekend. Tell them this is an emergency and The on call physician needs to return call right away. If you don’t get satisfaction take her to the emergency room bring all the medications she is taking. Tell them what is going on just like you said it here. Don’t give up make sure they take you serious.
