Can There Be Any “Ever Lasting Side Effect” of an Antidepressant?

Question by aldehyde: Can there be any “Ever lasting side effect” of an antidepressant?
Mostly they all go in few weeks, at the most 2-3 months

But I wonder if some side effects may last forever.

Like liver problems, libido problems and all……..

Particularly for those who abused SSRI badly to kill depression.

Can there be any such side effects which may last for more than 8-10 months?

Most antidepressants are safe and do not have lasting side effects. Some can cause TD which is uncontrollable movements in the face, but you would have symptoms of this already. Your liver could have some damage, but most of those potentially harmful drugs require blood test monitoring while you are on the med. Other meds have severe results, but you would know if you had those conditions as listed on the attached drug info sheets that you get with the drug. As far as “abused SSRI badly to kill depression” I would check with your doctor. Are you feeling ill? Or are you worried about what you have taken? I am not a doctor, just an experienced patient who has used and overdosed on many drugs. I have side effects while on the meds but they always go away once I stop the meds. I would get some blood work on your liver (I do every time I see my primary) and confess about your SSRI abuse. Overdosing can cause serious and potentially long term problems. My therapist has told me of patients who have overdosed and ended up blind – how horrible, depressed and blind. Please treat your meds with respect and respect the doctor who prescribed them for you, they are trusting you. Good luck.
