Q&A: Should I Ask My Doctor for My Hydrocodne Back for My Back?

Question by ghost: Should I ask my doctor for my hydrocodne back for my back?
I was in group home for a month and a half. I was given two 5/325 hydrocodones a day for my back problems. I have scoliosis. The group home CMA’s had a huge problem giving me my hydrocodone as a PRN. I had to ask for them, and each time I asked for them they would give me the 3rd degree like I was some kind of drug addict. I also had fioricet two times a day for migraines. I asked for a fioricet when I had a really bad migraine, and the CMA said no. I asked if I should call 911, and she said she was going to fax my doctor to tell him I was asking for to many narcotics. I left the place after writing her up to the head of the group home. When I went to my general practitioner, his nurse said for me not to expect to get my hydrocodone filled, because they had a call that I was abusing them.

I’m taking 200 mg. of ultram daily, and 30 mg of flexeril muscle relaxers. I still have pain in my back, and the two hydrocodne really did help. I told my doctor last month that I would just take my ultram and muscle relaxer, I didn’t give him a chance to say yes or no to giving me the hydrocodone.

Should I tell my doctor that I need my hydrocodone? I wake up with a lot of pain in the mornings. Ultram and flexeril do help, but I don’t think they are enough. If I ask him for my hydrocodone back, how should I explain the group home calling to say I was abusing narcotics? I think it’s impossible to abuse 5/325 hydrocodone 2 times a day.

What do you think? Was I “abusing” my narcotics? Do I deserve to live without pain? My uncle takes percocet 10, four times a day for his back problems, and I was only taking two hydrocone a day. I’m 31 years old, so I’m no spring chicken anymore, but I’m not old, and don’t feel I need precocets, or oxicotin, but I’m really in pain.

I alerted all the proper authorities to my situation with the group home, and I lost my DMH funding because they thought I was a pill seeker, so now I can’t go into any group home (not that I would want too).

What is your view on this? The ultram helps some, but I’m still in pain.

We all try to do what we can with what they give us to work with. For those who haven’t suffered yet it is easy for them to say what is abuse and what isn’t, until they walk a mile in the shoes. The next thing is that they don’t have all the answers either. I suffered with pain from a kid on, I fell out of a car when I was 3 and hit by another when I was 7. My back was messed up along with my neck and was in constant pain. I was seeing my chiropractor a minimum of two times a month, and had gone up to 7 times, to try to keep my body out of enough pain to keep going. Then last December I got into muscle releasing and it has been fantastic for me, I haven’t been back to the chiropractor since and feel better than when I was going. Releasing the muscles releases the pain from within them and then lets them go to rest in the body where they belong. Here is how to release your back and neck:
For your neck:
place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath an happening, the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp.
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
I hope you find even a part of the peace I found when I used it.
