Why Do So Many People Waste Their Lives on World of Warcraft?
Question by Rainbow: Why do so many people waste their lives on World of Warcraft?
I am not anti-gaming, I myself played a bit when I was a kid (loved final fantasy, spyro, harvest moon) though I do think it is a little lame to be an adult obsessive gamer. But what do you reckon is so addictive about this game? It is like a drug. My brother has been addicted to it for a couple of years, and it has really had a detrimental effect on him. He has no friends apart from other hardcore gamers. His weight has gone from skinny and athletic to positively obese. He has bad skin. He talks incessantly in a language only other WOWers understand. He has even screwed up his education, and was chucked out of college- why? Because he never went in, as he was playing WOW all night and drinking energy drinks. What I want to understand is what it is about this particular game that makes it so life-destroyingly addictive? I think it is the crack or crystal meth of the gaming world!
I ask this question because I would like to find a way to help my brother. Human interaction, love and care. At least yahoo answers can be a quest for knowledge, of sorts!
I asked my brother, it just seems like such a global phenomenon I would like to hear more about it from others. He reckons the addictiveness comes partly from having to pay (He feels he should play more to get value for money) and also they apparently keep making the highest level higher.
