Advice on Getting Help for a Friend W/ Mental & Drug Problems?

Question by Audri: Advice on getting help for a friend w/ mental & drug problems?
I have a friend who’s got a serious problem. He has a history of depression & had a drug problem years ago.

Saturday, the 16th, he went to the E.R. for chest pain where they pumped him full of Morphine and Ativan. Before he was able to detox off of that, he started having seizures. Sunday, an ambulance took him back to the same ER and they pumped him full of more ativan. When he came to, he said he was in pain over and over again so the gave him more morphine. This happened again on Monday, and on Tuesday when they gave him morphine ativan and dilaudid (which is 10x’s stronger than morphine) On Wednesday, the 20th, he said he was suicidal and went to a different ER which sent him to a drug rehab center instead of a psych ward.

They let him sign himself out 10 hours later.

The problem is he can’t get a chance to get off of the meds from the ER to think clearly. So He’s stuck in this cycle of ER, drugs, seizures, ER, drugs, seizures, etc. He’s so loopy he has no idea whats going on half the time.

How can his friends get him help? He doesn’t remember things from one hour to the next… and sometimes from one minute to the next. Hospitals just keep releasing him on his own recognizance or letting him sign out AMA. He doesn’t get a clear head long enough to decide to get help for himself.

ANY IDEAS PLEASE???

btw, he has to go to the ER for his seizures because he has them back to back and in between starts roaming around. He’s extremely disoriented after them and will get violent if anyone tries to restrain him. So, he ends up seizing down fights of stairs or walking into other peoples houses or something.

PLEASE – ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
He has no family left… they’ve all died off, and even if they could convince him to stay it wouldn’t help. He’s on so much medication, he wouldn’t remember 15 minutes later. He’s acting soley on impulse and instinct.

I’ve been to the hospital with him every time.
He’s been to 3 different hospitals.

The best thing to do is to get him to a hospital that will take this serious cause this can lead to death sometimes.
