Does Anyone Have Any Info. About Personal Values and How It Relates to Addiction and Recovery ?

Question by cyberpar: Does anyone have any info. about personal values and how it relates to addiction and recovery ?
I thought that I saw similar material in workbook form and the individual could complete the answers. Then, the instructor or therapist could clarify and explain the responses and ramifications thereof selected by the individual. A clarifying example of the type of questions could be “Do you value material wealth or physical health more ?

I’m no expert but, I believe a person’s values evolve throughout the life of the process of addiction and subsequent recovery. For instance: A heroin addict may value being adventurous and trying new things which is why they were lead to trying heroin for the first time. After that high hits them and the thoughts that go along with that high their values change to hold that physical/mental state in high regard. Yet, as they delve deeper into the dark depths of heroin addiction their values once again change. At rock bottom, they value nothing but getting away from the drug. In recovery their set of values change yet again to reflect their desire to stay off of heroin. Just my two cents.
