When your regular opiates won’t work, take something astronger for your break thru. But You can’t give opiates to an addict? Explain this to me?

The thing is that with a serious illness like liver cancer, the pain does not remain stable despite level serum levels of the narcotic analgesic, so for this situation, such patients need something to alleviate this pain.

If a person does not have a condition which indicates opiate use, it is irresponsible to provide them with opiates to reduce withdrawal symptoms or to enhance euphoria. With current therapeutic agents, e.g. suboxone, there is no current need to treat withdrawal with pure opiate agonists.
