Have You Ever Had a Drug Problem? What Would You Say Caused It?

Question by jen: Have you ever had a drug problem? What would you say caused it?
I have been watching Intervention and almost all these people start out with normal lives in happy homes and yet end up abusing drugs. It is so sad. I fear for my daughter’s future (she’s just a baby) and just wonder what I can do to prevent that from ever happening!

I put this in parenting b/c I want a parent’s perspective. Thanks!

We’re in kind of an alcohol/meth heavy area and I worry about my kids also. All we can do (imo) is warn of the dangers and give them positive activities and make them feel good about themselves. I think coping skills are really important for kids to learn early on so they aren’t reliant on substances to do that job for them. Honestly, with things like meth and heroin, my emphasis will be on them way more than marijuana.
