I’m Pretty Sure I Have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), What Can I Do About It?
Question by laura: I’m pretty sure I have ADD (attention deficit disorder), what can I do about it?
I think I’ve had it for awhile, but I have never done anything about it. I have a hard time concentrating during exams, when people are explaining lengthy details, and generally whenever I have to do something that involves concentration. It tends to take me twice the time to get things done. Is there anything I can do about this?

You cannot self-diagnose ADD, you need to be tested by a Professional. It is usually treated with medication, talk therapy, or a combination. There is not much you can do alone, without profession help.

My daughter has just been diagnosed with ADD she is 27 and has struggled all her life with this. I am not a doctor, but I would recommend you firstly go to your doctor and explain how you are feeling. They will then recommend you to see a psychiatrist (dont be scared!) who will then ask you to fill in a questionnaire which helps in their assessment. Lots of people have this condition and there is help for you to organise your life and head. I totally understand how you are feeling and its horrible. You may not have ADD – it could be something else. Either way do you think it is a good idea to go to your doctor? Good luck with exams – you will get extra time and support if you seek help.
