Do You Think I Could Have Gotten HIV?

Question by Lee: Do you think I could have gotten HIV?
I’m wondering if my concern is justified or if I’m just making myself paranoid. Here’s the situation: I’m only 16, and I’ve only ever had one sexual partner, who is my current girlfriend. I don’t know if she has HIV. I’m also her first sexual partner, but she has a history of using heroin intravenously (She says the needles were always clean, and shes trustworthy) But the other thing to take into account is that her mother was a drug addict as well and that she was a victim of rape at a young age. I’m considering discussing this with her soon. I’ve fingered her, we’ve had oral sex and intercourse. The sex was always protected, except on one occasion when we had a condom break. One reason I ask is because I’ve been having bad tension headaches lately which isn’t too common for me, and I know headaches can be an early symptom. What do you guys think?

I think that it’s sad you are so messed up with older people problems. Man — you’re only halfway through your teen years — and look at you! You’re involved with a heroin user whose own family has major problems. Don’t you want to enjoy your teen years? You will never get them back. Chances are, your “symptoms” are all stress/worry related and not HIV at all. But why in heaven’s name are you putting yourself in situations where such a possibility (of having HIV) even exists?! Man – please pause a moment and look at your life. You are a teenager. These are the most challenging, yet most fun years of your life and you are wasting them away with worry and with dangerous situations. Please look at yourself. Please look around and see what other 16 year old guys are doing — enjoying their cars, sports, hunting, trying out different jobs, etc. Do you really want to throw away these years by giving in to your raging hormones? Do you really want to risk your life – and break the hearts of your family and friends by engaging in such risky, self-destructive behavior? Come on, man. Think of what you’re doing. Think of what you’re missing. Think of what you’re willing to lose. You can do better. Do you think so little of yourself that you are uniting your body with someone who could kill you? What if a baby is conceived? Ready for the next 21 years of child support payments? Come on, man. Change course. It’s not too late.
