Can Minors Be in Possession of Alcohol Not Intended to Be Used as a Beverage?

Question by The One (and only): can minors be in possession of alcohol not intended to be used as a beverage?
my friend’s dad drives an e85 SUV, and he distills his own alcohol at his house to use as fuel, something I hear a lot of midwest people are doing since you can make it so easily from corn

my question is, theoretically if an 18-21 year old wanted to make fuel alcohol, would it be illegal? I know you can buy denatured ethanol as a minor because I have done it before when I was painting my bike, but I guess I am confused as to how the law distinguishes what from what

does the law basically say that minors may only not possess alcohol intended to be used as a beverage then? is any alcohol not rendered poisonous considered “drinking” alcohol until it is in fact denatured?
