If I Were to Support My Brother and Sister?

Question by Jesse: if i were to support my brother and sister?
could I receive aid from the government?
I am considering moving out of my abusive home and taking my brother and sister along with me. I am not confident that a job (if i even get one) will be enough to support the three of us!
They are both in Highschool. I just turned 20.

Are there any government aid- or anything that could aid us?

Okay….this is tough. I would call your primary care doctor and ask for their advice along with a lawyer. The problem is the “abuse” situation and CUSTODY situation. You do not have custody of your siblings, your parents do…so in order for them to live with you legally and get aid and all that stuff…you would probably need to attain custody for them. Honestly I would contact a lawyer. If you can get evidence of abuse, then I don’t know what that would mean…..and are you prepared to go through family court and do all of that? I am not saying this to be mean, just realistic. Do you have any other family members that could help you out? If not, and you are entirely on your own, then their are programs for low income families that might be able to help you. Hopefully you have your GED/HS diploma and any college? That will help you get a better job along with possibly some other aid. A lawyer might not charge you for a consultation, so I would go ahead and do that.

CPS also..look into it. You also might, depending on where you live, be able to find programs for families of abuse. A lot of the times they are trying to not take the kids out of the home, but work with the parents and the kids to fix the situation. For example if drugs or alcohol are involved they would put you all in a home where that isn’t allowed and put you all through counseling…I would look into all your sources for CPS and things like, where perhaps your primary care doctor can help with. That along with a lawyer, and you should be able to have more information before you make a major decision to do what you are doing…..(been there, done that personally!!) Hope this helps!!
