Do the Calories in Alcohol Work the Same Way as Regular Calories?

Question by Rob F: Do the calories in alcohol work the same way as regular calories?
For example, say Bacardi 151. The stomach pretty much absorbs all the alcohol in a drink which means that it doesn’t get digested as thoroughly as regular foods. My understanding of a calories the amount of energy that is contained in it and is measured by the amount of energy given off while burning it. So, does the body “burn” alcohol calories the same as regular bread calories.
