Please be as specific as possible, and give me the site, and directions on how to play. thanks. By tabletop i mean ACTUAL dungeons and dragons board game not like a game like world of warcraft

There are multiple programs/sites online that can be used to play D&D. Of the free ones, I believe the two most popular are OpenRPG (www.openrpg.com) and Maptool (www.rptools.net). Both are fairly complex tools so it’s not possible to explain how to use them here, but there are tutorials available. http://rpgvirtualtabletop.wikidot.com/ is a website that details a lot of available tabletop programs both free and not.
Also the Official Dungeons and Dragons Virtual Tabletop by Wizards of the Coast is not free, but as of the last update to the beta test for the program subscribers can invite non-subscribers to sessions using codes.
