RecoveryPark – An Introduction – An introduction to RecoveryPark and new ideas for urban planning in the City of Detroit. RecoveryPark is a planned development in the city of Detroit that will include urban farming, education, commercial and housing development and other projects that will help the community as a whole. It is a projected 10-year, multi-million dollar project that will help the city and its residents recover through economic and other empowerment. A growing task force, representing more than 75 collaborative partners in the areas of government, education, arts, finance and philanthropy has been created to help with the outreach, design, support and strategic planning for this project. This broad-based coalition is vested and committed to helping the city recover through an urban farming and land re-purposing development in the city. This coalition believes urban farming and constructive land re-purposing is essential to the city for four reasons: space, money, the green economy and human capital. • Space: Detroit’s population has been on a decline for decades and vacant land is underused and underdeveloped. Approximately 40 square miles in the city are unproductive and vacant. • Money: Using the vacant land for a new development will help get property back on the tax roll. • Green Economy: The green economy is one of the fastest growing job growth areas in Michigan. • Human capital: This initiative will provide for the support and training that both our clients and residents from the
