Why Am I Suddenly Breaking Out?!?

Question by Mel: Why am I suddenly breaking out?!?
I have had really good skin my whole life. All throughout my teen years, I got the occasional pimple or zit but nothing major. A little over a year ago I started getting a LOT of white heads and big painful pimples. I used proactive for a while and my skin got better, then much much worse. I quit the proctive at the end of last summer and in the past 3 months I have hit an all time low. I now have cystic acne! I usually have at least one cyst and several small “normal” zits or pimples. The cysts are absolutely hideous and they hurt really bad. I had one last winter on my forehead that came and went fairly quickly and wasnt too noticable but then it was just regular pimples. It was more of a red bump, these ones are large, flat and white on top. Very, very noticable. I have actually looked up and caught people staring at them! I dont get it. WHY am I suddenly breaking out at the ge of 21?!?
The only things that are different about my life now versus my teen years are:
1. I have been sober for 15 months. Meth and ritalin were my drugs of choice, along with alcohol and pot.
2. I just recently(bout 2 weeks ago) stopped getting my deprovera shot.
I know I should see a dermatologist, and if I had good insurance or the money I would. Im saving up but until I can afford it does anyone have any answers?
I am desperate. I feel so disgusting every time I look in the mirror. I hate my face ) :

Acne can be caused by stress for many people. My dermatologist told me that anyone at any age can get acne whether they have had it before or not. I’ve noticed when I had very bad acne it seemed to get much worse in the cold. Sometimes I would just go in the sun and sometimes that would help. Try getting a full nights rest because that can also be a big factor. My dermatologist recommended glyton wash and cream for my acne. I also hated to look in the mirror but within a year the medication cleared it all up. I’ve been acne free for 3-5 years now but I still use the medicine in case. Hope this helps 🙂
