What Do You Think of My Article About Anti-Drug Laws?
Question by : What do you think of my article about anti-drug laws?
Its called “Popular, but bad laws — anti drug laws”
————————————————————————————————————————————–
Why do we have anti-drug laws? There are a few reasons: first, people think drugs are so darn horrible that the Government should keep people from putting them in their body; second, people think it is wrong to sell drugs, because they are so darn horrible (it is of course); third and finally, people who are addicted to drugs are more likely to steal.
The first reason is totally illegitimate. Many drugs like heroin (from my knowledge) are guaranteed to cause harm, but people shouldn’t be imprisoned for using those drugs because putting someone in a prison cell for going through hell isn’t right. From my knowledge, powder cocaine & ecstasy are more of risky drugs then drugs that are guaranteed to cause harm…putting someone in a prison cell for taking their own risk isn’t right either. Also, from my knowledge, marijuana & “shrooms” are 100% safe drugs…so there is really no justification for putting someone in jail for doing those drugs even on the bases of protecting people from themselves.
The second & third reasons are more legitimate…assuming these laws were enforceable, sadly, however, from what I know, they are not. And because of that, the laws themselves actually produce more crime. Because those addictive drugs are on the black market, the most ruthless sellers win…this creates things like gang wars. It also causes drugs to be sold at inflated prices, which cause junkies to run out of money faster, and therefore creates more theft crimes.
The unenforceability recks whatever argument there can be made on the bases of drugs motivating people to steal, because if they can’t stop people from doing drugs, the whole idea of stopping drugs to stop crime falls apart on itself. Added, drugs don’t commit the crimes, people do.
You would think the argument against anti-drug laws would make more sense then the current policy, but sadly, according to policy makers, somehow it don’t…So we will continue to see the “war on drugs” unfold…causing: death, unjust impisonment, and waste; until hopefully someday people put the pieces together, stop buying into propaganda, and put a stop to these wrong and useless laws.
