I have physical custody of my son because his mom was caught with methamphetamine in her system. We were divorced years ago but maintain an OK relationship. I’m married and she is a good mom to my son. His mom has attended her court ordered classes and drug testing so I let him stay and visit with his grandma and brothers and sister every other week. I’m concerned that those visits are affecting him negatively. He told me, in his own words they don’t have “rules or limitations” on him when he is there. Just like any 13 year old you have to have a constant eye on them and provide boundaries. He spent 3 weeks with them recently and he didn’t do any of his summer reading, math homework, or any of the chores that he normally does at home. I’m concerned that the morals and responsibilities I’m teaching him are being jeopardized when he visits. So basically do I keep counter attacking the crap he learns over there, or should I limit severely or altogether his time with them? I’m gong to try to get his “mom” on board with the rules and limitations but I don’t think she will be receptive, especially her mom who just wants to “love” him and let him do anything he wants. I don’t want to keep him from them, but they seem to be destroying my son.

Shorter visits might be in order especially if you talk to his Mother and there is no change in this situation- no rules for a few days won’t put him right off his training that you have provided but weeks on end might.
