Why Did My Dad React This Way?

Question by Tony: Why did my dad react this way?
one of my brothers, vinny, is in rehab for cocaine addiction, hes 17 and getting clean was his decision, he went to my step dad on his own and asked for help because he wanted it and felt horrible.

so we had this family session thing the other day and vin was hiding his arm kind of, i dont know, it was weird. and somehow it came about him rolling up his sleeve and he had this ridiculous tattoo of a cartoon girl with chinese writing, it was really weird.

when we saw it everyone was silent, like my parents DO NOT care about tattoos, some of my sibs have them. my mom is taking me on my 16th birthday to get one but this one was weird and pointless and (no offense to my brother) but just stupid.

finally my little brother luke was like “oh you have a new tattoo” and vinny was like “its stupid,embarrassing , i dont remember getting it, it was right before i went to you (meaning my step dad, as in went to him for help)”

so my dad reacts by just picking up his arm and looking at it and being like “it doesnt look that bad”
and just blew it off like nothing.

it was just really confusing and weird because like my parents are cool but a tattoo on your forearm of a slutty girl with chinese stuff? why the calm reaction? any parents have an idea?

and when he said that he wasnt saying it like he doesnt care he was saying it like “its no big deal” in like a sincere way, thats what i mean like it was weird. i feel like most parents would be either freaking out about a totally visable tatto of a half naked girl, or be like yeah its a ridiculous tattoo and make fun of it. all he said was “it doesnt look that bad” but it did, it looked so bad!!
