McGreevey, is once again campaigning, but not for political office. The former New Jersey governor is hoping to be accepted as a candidate for the priesthood in the Episcopal Church, which has begun ordaining openly gay clergy. McGreevey, who has already earned a Divinity Degree, had his application to become a postulate rejected last month. He says he plans to continue trying, and his current work is a [sort] of test ground of his commitment. McGreevey is a recovery specialist at the Integrity House, a residential drug treatment center in Newark. McGreevey, who resigned as governor of New Jersey in 2004, announced at a press conference that year that he was “a gay American.” The former Governor had been married twice, with two children. He claims that his resignation as Governor was a result of blackmail by a man, with whom he admits to have had extra marital affairs. Neither the former Governor nor the Episcopal Diocese of Newark would discuss the status of McGreevey’s application for the priesthood.
