3 Long Term Complications of Cocaine Withdrawal
3 Long Term Complications Of Cocaine Withdrawal
The road to recovery from a cocaine addiction can often be a rough and rocky road, with many bumps and turns along the way. When you decide to quit cocaine, a immediate let down is felt, followed by an intense craving for another hit of cocaine. The brain is suffering it’s withdrawal and you crash. At this time you must be on guard and aware of these 3 long term complications to protect yourself.
Overdose: Because the brain cravings for more cocaine is usually more severe when quitting, the danger increases. As the brain is calling for another hit, it is also telling you that it should be more than before. Even though the cravings will decrease in intensity over time, care must be taken that you do not have any drugs available, to tempt those desires. The danger of overdose is extreme at this time.
Extreme Depression: Anytime a persons cravings are appeased, they feel everything is well. When they stop using and that appeased feeling goes away, depression can easily set in. They feel like they were not in control, and then feel helpless. Anytime one feels helpless then the depression easily begins. One good way to forestall depression is to become very proactive in something that has nothing to do with drugs. Because cocaine addiction is one of acute activity, continuing to be very active in something else is extremely important to prevent sinking into depression.
Suicide: Because of the feeling that you are not in control of life and feeling guilty for doing drugs, suicide is a complication to be on guard against. Do not let the feelings of helplessness, overcome the vision to recover. Many times the addict feels like they have let not only themselves, but family and friends down. Often a persons self-esteem has been battered to the point of helplessness. With the cravings for more cocaine and the feelings of helplessness, it often leads to suicidal feelings.
Being aware of these potential complications and knowing that withdrawal will be difficult at times, knowing what the withdrawal complications consist of and then being on guard for them, will make beating a cocaine habit into a life changing accomplishment!
