I Used Meth Heavily for About 3 Years, 10 Years Ago. I Have Lots of Anxiety, Have Psychiatrist, What to Do?
Michael J asked:
I am 34 years old I used to take a lot of meth, crank, etc along with acid, GHB, benzos, etc about 10 years ago for around 3 years. I still smoke a little pot and I take the benzos I have prescribed, clonazepam. I also have moderate to severe pain in my lower back from 3 herniated discs (treated with cortisone epidurals, chiro, PT, tramadol and carisopridol). I feel like I am getting nowhere and need advise on what to tell my doctor, or a new doctor that I think I need more aggressive treatment.

Well, that’s what you get for doing those types of drugs. Quit whining your brought this upon yourself…
Congrats on quitting drugs! I know it is hard. I also have had a lot of the same treatment for my back and I don’t have 3 herniated disks, so I’m rather surprised that you aren’t receiving more aggressive treatment. I understand that getting your doctor on board to try different treatment can be difficult, but when I feel like my treatment isn’t working I start keep a journal. I write down each day what time I take my medication and what time I receive my therapy. Then about two hours later I write down how I feel or any relief that I received. I also write down with each day things that I had difficulty doing, like walking up stairs, sitting for extended periods, etc. It is a lot of work but I do it for two weeks straight and then take it with me to my next appointment and give it to my doctor and just say “I sometimes have difficulty remembering all of things regarding my treatment that I would like to tell you so I kept a log.” From my experience when I do that my doctors seem to listen to my concerns more and work with me better to change my course of treatment. I know it is a lot of work and it seems unfair that we have to go to these lengths to get help but it will be worth it!
Also please don’t get discouraged by negative comments left by others. Not everyone understands what many of us have gone through and I believe that people who have used drugs have typically had a heavier burden to carry than most. Hang in there though! Obviously you’ve done a great job getting away from drugs, so you’re a strong person and with some persistence I think you will find some treatment for your back that will help you lead the life you want! I hope this was helpful to you! Good luck!
