Junk Food:A Menace to Your Health

Junk Food:A menace To your Health

YOU!Yes you! You have a problem. Don’t try to shy away from the facts, it’s all too obvious. You have a problem as bad as any drug addict, coke sniffer, alcoholic, solvent abuser, chain smoker, pot smoker and what not. And while there are ways people find out to beat that habit, this is something no one can help you beat but yourself.

Now you’re obviously asking “But I don’t smoke pot? I’ve never touched Cocaine, and alcohol is forbidden to me… so what are we talking about?!”

The answer is: Junk Food.

Don’t believe me? How about we take a trip to the supermarket and see where we end up… ah I see you found the potato chips aisle. Or how about that McDonalds around the corner? Betcha you’d order the quarter pounder with extra cheese and double fries right off the bat!

Did you even know that Junk Food contains No Nutritional Value? That’s right, ZERO! Or did you even bother wondering what ingredients they have in them? Chances are they’re ingredients considered unhealthy when regularly eaten, or those considered unhealthy to eat at all. Junk Foods are great if you want an uptake in useless calories, cholesterol, and let’s not forget the fats in it causing ill effects on your health.

So why do you do it? Here are the more common and popular reasons that are sure to be yours too:

Less Time:

You’re at work and you have a deadline over your head. Worrying about getting this report done sure makes you hungry. You pull out a packet of Chips and start munching away. Junk Food wins again because of its simplicity. These include potato chips, nachos, and crackers etc that don’t even need cooking or heating. You can eat them virtually doing anything: while watching TV, driving, at work… get creative! And let’s forget the God-sent restaurants that deliver pizzas and burgers at your door step hot and ready to eat. That should save you a lot of hassles and time, right?

Great Taste:

I’ll be the first to admit right here, so do yourself a favor too. Junk Food is your own personal sin. It’s delicious; it’s tantalizing, and definitely irresistible. Just like that commercial says “you can’t eat just one”. Great taste also influences you to opt for junk food. However, you probably didn’t realize that junk foods get their taste all thanks to the lush usage of oils, salts and/or sugar. The minute you take the first bite: that’s it, you’re hooked! But what about proper nutrition, you wonder? Don’t worry; junk food makes you forget all that.

Popular Advertising:

As you were a kid growing up, you were bound to annoy your parents every time you saw an ad for the new delicious crispy deals at your favorite fast food restaurant. Advertising actually plays a huge role in fine tuning our minds to accept all junk food as if there was no tomorrow. How many times do you see adverts for the delicious new deals at McDonalds or KFC, offering gargantuan new burgers and the spiffy new combo meals? Your eyes, brain and stomach are hypnotized by that sinful new ad and its contents that just make you wanna dial that number and order yourself a mouthful. TV, Internet, newspapers, radio, wall posters and banners… they’re everywhere you turn. If ingredients make junk foods appealing, they’re the same reason that makes them hazardous to your health too. The fat contents in junk foods have alarmingly high cholesterol levels, not to mention the considerable amount of sugar and sodium salts that have negative effects on health. High calorie content with sugar are the pioneer causes of obesity, while cholesterol and salt are known to start a chain reaction that results in high blood pressure, stroke and heart diseases. Still not convinced? Stop munching and ask yourself if you’ve ever encountered:

Lack of Energy?

While junk foods are pretty much sufficing, they don’t provide you with essential nutrients, and eventually lack of necessary nutrients results in weakness and fatigue at times. This is known as a short-term adverse effect

Poor concentration?

Right after you’ve had a fill of an extravagant junk meal rich in oil, you start feeling drowsy and fail to concentrate. Due to constant instances of junk food eating, blood circulation drops due to fat accumulation. This results in lack of vital oxygen, nutrients and proteins that can stale your grey (brain) cells temporarily, eventually leading to poor concentration. This is another result of junk food and is traced to affect in immediate and medium term periods.

Heart Diseases?

Trying to burp out that stinging in your chest? Better start getting concerned because eating too much junk food is a major cause of heart diseases.
