Being Mistreated by Psychologists, Doctors, Etc…?
Question by Chris: Being mistreated by psychologists, doctors, etc…?
Basically, I’ve had horrid anxiety for a few years now. I am 20.
Started seeing a psychologist a few weeks ago, saw a doc finally last friday..
He continually suggested anti depressants… I told him I’m as sad as the next guy but that’s not a problem. I was open with the psychologist that I had self medicated with benzos and messed with painkillers here and there but had NO ADDICTIONS (lie)
so instead of listening to me, he literally says “we’ll give u different antidepressants”
gives me pristiq, beta blockers, and buspirone (which I refused, citing no reason but it didnt work for me when used illicitly in the past) well, i tried it out.
these meds made me feel VERRRRY sick, I now will never criticize what Tom Cruise said about antidepressants (no, Tom Cruise is not my God, LoL)
but yeah, what do I do now? I don’t wanna doctor shop as its a small town…
but jesus christ i cant live like this anymore…
I really just wanted a weak anxyliotic, like lorazepam or valium.
I would refuse Xanax and others, I’m really out for something I can take when
these symptoms hit me SO hard. I’ve used many benzos and found these to be the most effective!
And I have had some issues with painkillers, but it’s under control… And I know the buzz with benzos, its okaaaaay but much better for anxiety/ arrythmia, etc? Why would a dr. rather SEVERELY ALTER someone of 20’s brain when they could see I am a responsible man with NO documented history of abuse or drug seeking behavior… Do I talk to my psychologist more about how its not helping? Do I call the doctor back? What do I do?
Im getting desperate, I feel something drastic must be done, I’m tired of not being taken seriously.
I know you all don’t know me, but I know damn well I wouldn’t take these benzos daily,
I wouldn’t sell them, mix with booze or painkillers, I know better…
WHAT CAN I DO?
I pay in cash, I’m polite, I don’t look like a junkie, and still, SHITTY treatment with pills that make me WAY worse off than when began…
All advice is appreciated. Also, Ativan and Maaaybe klonopin are considerable seeing as to how valium is harder to see prescribed nowadays, I just meant that would be my preference (nice and weak…)
All help is appreciated greatly. I hope you can sense my sincerity…

I have never had trouble getting benzos, but I partly wonder if it’s because I’m older than you.
I too have had a handful of docs insist I should be on an anti-depressant to help my anxiety. And I too tried the anti-depressants and had a horrific reaction to them. Though I have several friends who have taken them without problems.
Anywho… I think I also get the benzos because I have specific, identifiable phobias. I think docs feel better about giving benzos if they know you’re only taking them for specific situations. As I’m sure you know, they can’t be taken every day. So here’s my suggestion – this has usually worked for me: get a new doc. Tell the new doc you have a couple of specific phobias, say, for example, flying, riding in the car on the highway, and speaking in front of a crowd. Tell the doc you are in these situations maybe five times a month, and that’s why you need the benzos. It’s worked for me just about every time… though, to be honest, these are my phobias, and I do take the benzos about five times a month.
