Question by luvspiritnature: Who agrees with me that whether at a 12 step meeting or not, saying, “I am an addict…”?
…is a negative affirmation that could be detrimental to one’s progress in overcoming addictive behavior?
Any suggestions for a positive affirmation to take it’s place that might appease members of a Narcotics Anonymous group? Keep in mind, they’re pretty set in their ways.

I think you are missing the point of why they say it. Many are in denial and will not admit or believe they are an addict. When they finally do, by saying that, it is a positive step toward recovery. It is the first step and it is positive compared to being in denial. I really doubt NA is going to change it just for one person.
