What Part of This Allergy Medicine Is the Part That Works?

I have been having breathing congestion lately. I iam taking the only thing that helps. It has 240 mg pseudoephedrine (the crystal meth stuff) and the antihistamine Loratadine. I dont want to have to take the pseudoephedrine because I read it is harmful. What part is helping me breath better? Can the antihistamine clear up breathing by itself?
