Trying to Join the Army, Have Some Speedbumps.?

Im going to tell you everything so everyone can make an accurate oppinion.

I am 30 now been married for 2 years and have a 18 month old son.I live and grew up in california.

when i was 16-17 i tried smoking weed a few times and i tried crystal meth once, when my parents found out they put me in rehab, although i was never an adict they were doing it as a prevention, i never did drugs again. when i was around 23-25 i got around 15 tickets for skateboarding on the local board walk by the beach, riding my bike without a light, and falling asleep on the beach a few times. I also recieved a ticket for riding a moped with a loud muffler 2 years ago, and i didnt have my license ( i have never had my drivers license) so i had my license suspended. i never went to to any of my court dates for my tickets and thats why i owe $7000 to collections now, but im going to pay it in full before i join.

I am currently talking with a recruiter but they also encountered another problem: around 2 years ago i applied for the national guard, took the asvab and and physical, i told them i had done drugs a few times before, they wanted 3 references and i never got back with them.
so now my new recruiter says he just needs to speak with the old national guard recruiter and have the records tranferred, which is taking forever. but my recruiter does know that i owe all the money to collections and he says i just have to pay it off. he also knows i have 2 misdemeanors that happened over 5 years ago for :”misconduct against a police officer/concealed weapon”( a small diving knife), and another for “disturbing the peace” i did 2 weeks in jail for the first one and was on probation (but have been off for a few years) and did community service, he said they can be waivered.

i also have bad credit because i owe a few credit cards (maybe $1000) and i have a poor job history.

i am wondering how many waivers are you allowed, i know all this together sounds bad but i have had a hard life this far and have been trying to straighten it up for the past 5 years, i have been sober for 13 years, and have just had a hard time keeping a job, because i relocate and i dont drive.

I really want to join the army and i know i have a lot going against me, but i am an honest person. i want to join for my country, for myself, and for my family. now i have all these unfortunate past events that could hold me back.

what do you think?

i believe you can join the military until you are 41…..so yes it can be a career choice for me.
