The Legalization of Marijuana.?

Question by affliction: The Legalization of Marijuana.?
Marijuana is the most widely taken “drug” on the entire planet. 47 percent of people surveyed said they have used marijuana within their lifetime. Marijuana is decriminalized in several states, such as California and Massachusetts. It is decriminalized in Denver, Colorado, but not the state of Colorado.

A survey has shown that 66 percent of teenagers have smoked or do smoke marijuana.

Marijuana has been taking a bad reputation for years. It was never illegal until 1927, when Henry J. Anslinger, then head of the DEA pushed for the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 to be law. Newspaper sensationalist tycoon William Randolph Hearst helped in pushing his agenda to the public, by posting false and sensational propaganda in his giant string of newspapers.

In the thousands of years of recorded use, marijuana has killed no one. Yes, no one. Not a single soul. The United States then comes along to make it illegal. There has been propaganda that floats about saying marijuana kills brain cells and causes cancer, when tests have shown that neither have occurred. Marijuana has been proven in clinical trials and tests to be safer than alcohol and tobacco, with less dependency rates and less physical harm than either of the two. It is one of the safest drugs in existence.

Infact, California recognizes this and allows marijuana to be used for medical purposes. It can cure many ailing symptoms, including headaches.

Marijuana is also one of the biggest money makers and money takers in the United States. California leads the charge with the largest revenue in illegal and legal marijuana sales and is the largest producer of the plant. California’s economy would be lifted out of recession and into a surplus in a matter of months.

Steps are closer to legalization. Oregon may be the first state with the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act of 2010 on the ballot. This will allow the sale of cannabis and cannabis-related products to people 21 years of age and older. If legalized this could boost Oregon’s economy.

Mexican drug cartels in the South are making an enormous amount of money off of marijuana. Their three main drugs are amphetamines, heroin and of course, marijuana. Attorney General Eric Holder said that Mexico is second in security threats, next to a nuclear armed Iran. The proximity of Mexico combined with the propitiation of drugs into the South and Southwest, eventually trickling into the upper parts of the country is an enormous boost to their monetary funds and their agenda. This only makes them more powerful and more likely to take over a destabilized Mexico. By legalizing marijuana, this would cut their product by AT LEAST 33 percent if everyone buys from local and national stores instead of illegal Mexican drug cartels.

The economic implications of marijuana are enormous.

Americans buy so much weed, that if Congress were to legalize marijuana, the American economy would be lifted out of recession and into a surplus. The government could allow stores to sell it, factories to process and dry it, and businesses to plant and cultivate weed.

Marijuana (Hemp) can be used to make paper. The Declaration of Independence was written on hemp. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson realized the potential for hemp. They even grew it in their backyards. George Washington said “make the most of the hemp seed, sow it everywhere.” Hemp takes four times as less chemicals to make and saves trees.

Do you support the legalization of marijuana? Why or why not? Do you think the United States would be a better country because of it?
You people also have to realize, marijuana isn’t just about smoking it. There’s a variety of other things people can do with marijuana than smoke it.

Making paper is ONE example.

I support the decriminalization of marijuana, a fine rather than any jail time, maybe make it legal. We could use and raise money rather than spend taxpayers money to feed nonviolent offenders who are now convicted felons and will have a hard time finding a job!!!! So sick of hypocritial pol like Clinton laughing about their pot use and condemning and raising drug penalties for exactly what they did. Shame shame shame on them!
