Substance Addiction: Information About Drug Addiction Treatment

Substance addiction is a horrible affliction, not only for the person going through it, but for their family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances. No one wants to watch someone spiral into the throes of substance abuse and addiction, with no end in sight. It is very difficult to stand on the sidelines and watch this happen to someone you care about, someone you used to know, but it is also very difficult to constructively help them out without feeding their addiction or taking a tough love stance that is very hard to keep up. Many people cannot get themselves clean of opiate addiction despite the best intentions of themselves and their loved ones. When this happens, it may be time to turn to a more aggressive treatment than trying to quit cold turkey. For opiates like heroin, the answer often lies in suboxone treatment.

Suboxone is a chemical that can free an addict from their cravings for opiates like heroin. It is estimated that around the world millions of people are addicted to opiates and opioid compounds like morphine, with 3 million estimated victims alone in the US, and most of them are not being treated properly, either because they do not have access to the correct treatment, or do not have a caring loved one to prompt them to get help.

The standard treatment for chemical addiction is methadone, but the problem is that there are not enough treatment clinics and rehab centers to handle all the patients that need the treatment. Suboxone is not a cure for opiate addiction, but once the detoxification process at a rehab center, treatment facility, or addiction clinic is complete, then suboxone has been shown to aid in the maintenance phase, in which the addict is slowly weaned off of their dependence. It can be used for detoxification, but in general it is much better suited for maintenance afterward.
