Orange County Florida-Possession of Cocaine-Likely Sentence, Treatment Options?

A family member was arrested in O.C. Florida in April for possession of cocaine. He’s been in jail for almost a month. I believe this is likely his 1st offense in Florida though I’m not positive. He hasn’t been in Florida all that long. I’m in California & our laws are very pro-treatment. His bail is only $5000, in CA that bail is very low & would indicate not-so-serious charges/no probation status or violation/no prior history. He’d also have been sentenced to a drug treatment program by now & would have been released upon bed availability. I don’t have a way for him to communicate with me by phone. I need to know is there an organization that can act as a liasion for me-here we have ‘Friends Outside’. Is he going to need outside help to request a program or are the courts there set up to expedite treatment if he chooses it? I’m not even sure he wants to get clean but he’s a good guy, he’s alone out there & this is about all I can do to help. Anyone been there-done that?
for lillardlane-i 1st thank you for your personal experience-that said-many folks, beginning with the worlds most trusted doctors to our countries leaders & lawmakers, agree that alcoholism/addiction is a disease. i’m sorry that it may well take your brother & for your family’s heartache as it does so. But as with any disease, sometimes treatment works, sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t, it is often fatal. When it does,often it is initiated by courts or fed-up loved ones, as a general rule, the sufferer tends to be the last to realize their own demise & only capable of self destruct.Some of us do recover. Many of us do so through treatment. I am one of millions surviving addiction day by day. May your brother find the grace he’s not yet known, be it in life or in leaving his.Consider the torment of your family.Consider now what being the tormentor must be like for him. Treatment is far from enabling.Rebuilding oneself body & mind is no party. May peace be with you & yours.
