Meth Addict Looking for Help? Any Suggestions?
Question by thebigwhiterock: Meth addict looking for help? Any suggestions?
My very good friend of 17 years is a meth addict. He is now 34 years old. He has been kicked out of his apartment and his roommate called me to come get him because he found my phone number. My friend wants help and wants to quit. I took him to the hospital thinking they would put him in a rehab or something. They didn’t do anything for him but check him over and release him.
I can’t just take him to a shelter. I’ve called a few Meth helpline numbers but they have verbal praise but no action. He does not have the money to pay for private treatment. What can I do? Help. Please help.

congratulations for your friend, it is great that he wants to quit! and it’s lucky for him that he has great friends like you
I would say to take him to rehab yourself, you don’t need a hospital’s permission to admit somebody into rehab
if you cannot get him into rehab, I would say probably the best thing to do is to let him stay with you
if he has been making his own meth you should probably lock up all the things you use to make it, if he has been buying it you should probably make sure he isn’t able to buy anymore
I hope all works out and that your friend is able to spend the rest of his life in a much healthier and happier way
