Losing Weight Through Running
There is no better way to lose weight than to run. Running is the most effective form of cardio-endurance around. Running is a total body workout because it utilizes every muscle in your body. Additionally, running builds endurance and gives us the energy that we need to walk up a flight of stairs, fight off an enemy, cross train for other sports, or simply run for our lives.
Contrary to what most people believe, when you want to lose weight, the vast majority of people will tend to focus on one or more “hot spots” or problem areas of their body. For women, these areas include the hips and the buttocks and in some cases the stomach (if they’ve had children). For men, the problem area mainly focuses around what is popularly known as the “beer gut” or belly area. The thing is, you can do as many crunches, squats and push ups per day as you want. However, without doing any cardio or only a small amount of cardio, you typically won’t get as much out of it.
When we run (which is a form of cardio), we are burning off fat calories as well as other calories. Whatever areas of your body contain the most fat is where you will begin to see the fat disappear. So, if for example you know that your problem areas are your hips and thighs, you may want to start off by running at least 30 minutes. Then after you’ve completed your run, you should go through a brief ‘circuit’ of exercises to include such things as: variations of the crunch, pull down bars, cycling and the like. After getting through a couple of weeks of exercising regularly as well as eating, sleeping and drinking plenty of water, you should be able to see a marked difference in how your bod looks.
The problem with losing weight is that when it comes to most people, they can’t get rid of that extra weight soon enough! Even I am currently guilty of this. It’s almost as if you don’t have the patience to sit around waiting for your body to catch up with the program. The irony in all of this is that it takes time to lose weight; it is not something that is going to happen overnight. Just as quickly and as seamlessly as you put on the extra pounds without even realizing it, you will find that the opposite is true for those who are trying to lose weight.
If you don’t have a park near to where you live, the roads will have to do. If you do plan on actually doing your runs on the roadways, it is often a good idea to stake out the various streets, names and locations before you set out on foot. Take your car and calculate the exact mileage, this way you’ll get a better feel for what your pace is. And remember, losing weight is something that is better done one step at a time.
