Thousands of heavily armed police and soldiers barged past barricades into the capital’s most violent slums on Tuesday, clashing with die-hard defenders of a gang leader sought by the United States. At least 30 people have died, officials said.

Two candidates, Caren Callahan and Ann Moorman, are running for Mendocino County retiring Superior Court Judge Room 1 Leonard LaCasse’s position on the June 8 ballot. Callahan and Moorman participated in a forum held at the MCTV studio last Friday.

In April 2009, Sally Murphy was laid off from her job with a corporate relocation company, ending a 21-year career. With her chances of finding a new job in the same field slim to none, she knew she’d have to make some significant changes in her life.
