Council gives sheriff 5K for jail food
LA PORTE — The La Porte County Council unanimously voted Monday night to give La Porte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer $ 185,000 for food for offenders housed in the jail and $ 150,000 for medical costs for offenders. Mollenhauer said there were 384 offenders in the jail Monday. The cost of food the jail was paying was $ 1.04 per meal per offender, below the state allowance of $ 1.19 per meal.
