I’m talking about in a medical/chemical sense…not necessarily a legal sense.

Yes, narcotics (opiate derivatives) are things like heroin, morphine, vicodin, percoset, oxycontin etc. They’re used as painkillers. Cocaine is totally different, it’s a stimulant and has nothing to do with opium.
