Our last president (and previously oilman) G W Bush said “America is addicted to oil.”
Why? Because America has 5% of the world’s population, but consumes 25% of the world’s petroleum.

But… when I’ve suggested conservation (reducing use of fossil fuels) for the last 20 years, I got sneered at. Even now, we think we can drill our way out of our addiction. Which is like telling a meth addict, “Maybe you should make your own meth.”

Follow-up question: How much longer do we intend to be dickheads to the rest of the living beings on this planet just so we can drive SUVs?

My stats are wrong? 5% population and 25% consumption? Go ahead then, set me straight.
Drive less SUVs. Use mass transit more. WALK MORE (jeebus, over half of Americans are obese!). STOP USING 25% OF THE WORLD’S OIL.

You seriously think these will bankrupt our country? I’m sorry, when did America switch from “Can Do” to “Meh, it’s just too hard…”? Is that the new conservative mantra? We can’t change being gluttons?
