Guilty pleas heard in court
Twenty-seven guilty pleas, most of them drug- or alcohol-related, were heard in 115th District Court in Gilmer between July 5 and 16. Three motions to revoke probation were also heard before District Judge Lauren Parish, who presided and pronounced sentence.

Drink Detective cards a deterrent, company says
A small card device for testing whether a drink has been spiked with drugs is being rolled out in Canada this summer, but the man who brought it to market in the United Kingdom six years ago says he has yet to hear of a would-be spiker being caught.
