Co Worker Problems?
Question by Erik L: Co Worker Problems?
First let me tell you what type of enviroment I work in. I work at a drug and alcohol rehab clinic. Me and mom both work there. she basically got me job because its fit well with my school time. Basically we deal with people who just get out prison and wanna get clean. The problem is that I have a co worker there is really out of control. She is a ok looking woman so the clients come in and flirt with her. I have no problem to each is own thats what i live by. but im tired of how she acts with me. everytime there’s clients around she wants start yelling at me and treatiing me like im a nobody. we already had two arguements already about how she acts. the thing is that she is close friends with director of the company. she always bragging about how she can get people fired. how am i supposed to handle it. my grandmom told me to ignore it. but i cant take it. im afraid that my mom will get fired if i go off on her like i want to. plus she is a woman.

The answer is simple: find a different job. What you’re describing sounds a lot like a no-win situation. Your mother is responsible for you getting the job so you’re beholden to her. Sometimes working with family can create bad chemistry. Also her relationship with the boss gives her a power advantage that is almost impossible to fight.
Whatever you do, leave on good terms. Being able to leave with a good job reference is extremely important. A bad reference can haunt you for years.
This may sound tough, even impossible, but just take it. Take it and channel every bit of frustration and suppressed rage into scrambling like hell to get another job, any job, so that you can get out before you pop. Focus on how much nicer your next job will be.
Be the good boy, the go-to-guy, the good soldier right up to the moment you’ve handed in your resignation letter and walked out the door. Be cordial, professional, helpful, obedient, the ideal employee for every moment up to that point, even if it has you sweating blood to do it.
Then smile up to the very moment you’ve walked out that door for the last time, then run like hell and don’t look back.
